Graphs, Graphs, Graphs

Last week, we learned all about graphs!  We took surveys, collected data, tallied the data we collected, and used our data to create bar graphs.
Here are some fun links that you can visit at home to review reading and creating your own graphs!
Happy Graphing!

Read to Self

Have you wondered exactly what Read to Self looks like in our classroom?

We can use the anchor chart above to remind us how to choose a Good Fit Book-a book that is just right for us to read!

We can use this anchor chart located on our classroom bulletin board to remind us that there are three ways to read a book.

We can use this chart to remind us what all students are expected to be doing independently during Read to Self time while Mrs. Weegar is conducting a guided reading group with a small group of students.

We have been practicing this skill every single day since the first week of school.  Each day, we practice for an additional minute in order to build our reading stamina.  I would say that we have definitely got the hang of what is expected out of us during Read to Self time!

I am so proud of my awesome first grade readers!

Dot Day

Today was Dot Day!
All of the learners at Austin celebrated this fun day in various ways!
In 1D, we watched the story, The Dot by Peter Reynolds as it was read to us online.

After watching and discussing the story, I passed out one dot to each learner.  I encouraged them to use their one dot in any way they wished and turn it into something else.
I was so inspired by all of the unique creations that the students came up with!
Happy Dot Day from 1D!

We also came to school dressed in dots!
What a fun day!
